Ancient and modern HISTORY is present on all the walls of buildings, temples and houses. It is a open-air museum that expresses itself like a graphic novel with drawings of infinite precision and colours accentuated by the light of an ever-present sun.
Endearing and funny EGYPTIANS bring this film set to life. The population is made up of 60% young people under the age of thirty, who live fast, walk fast and talk fast.
CAIRO is a fascinating, sprawling city that is impossible to understand as it escapes all logic. Its communicative energy recharges your batteries in a matter of hours.
But inventing a collection of fashion accessories is not the same thing as writing a tourist guidebook, even though there is a great temptation to reproduce literally all the wonders that the country offers. We must draw inspiration from the genius of the Egyptian kings and queens who captured the details of their daily lives in drawings. We must humbly take inspiration from the art of hieroglyphics - from lotus scrolls or out-of-this-world rebuses - to define a rich, pictorial language that will decorate your clothes.
Designing a collection while travelling has meant taking a step back to look at our work with fresh eyes and letting it infuse into a different atmosphere to reel in new ideas.
So we are back from the edge of the Middle East, our notebooks filled with detailed drawings, our heads full of thrilling adventures, encounters and stories that we will express in embroidery. Sail with us into the sunset, on our golden felucca. It is steered by old Mohamed who navigates with ease through the swirling cataracts and the turbulence of his country.
