AUTUMN/WINTER 24-25 COLLECTION

Macon&Lesquoy has been headquartered in La Manche for 15 years. For 150 years, once a year, the people of Granville and the surrounding area have taken over the town for a few days. It's CARNAVAL. More than just a demonstration of floats and costumes, Carnival is a wonderful opportunity to express oneself, to take note, to take a stand against the established order with humor and intelligence. For the past 15 years, the entire M&L team has been preparing its costumes throughout the year in anticipation of this joyous moment of letting go. Since coming out of confinement, we've noticed a craze for these popular events: cavalcades, festivals, funfairs, balls, circuses...

So we flew over carnivals the world over, from Dunkirk to Rio, via Venice and Basel. We're fascinated by the way people come together as one, the way the crowd takes over the city, imposing itself with color, music and the smell of French fries and merguez. This momentum is galvanizing. It delights, reassures, surprises: it's the transgressive side and the pleasure of being together that is evoked here.

Our inspirations are drawn from our experiences of carnivals, gay pride events and demonstrations, and from the work of artists such as Calder, Matisse, Picasso and Jacques Demy. We appreciate Niki de Saint Phalle's and Yayoi Kusama's joyful take on tragic social themes..
