Winged Victory of Samothrace
First half of the 2nd century BC
Parian marble
Paris, Louvre Museum, Department of Greek, Etruscan, and Roman Antiquities.
Very early in Greece, victory was represented as a winged goddess. The Winged Victory of Samothrace is the most famous example.
Erected on the island of Samothrace at the beginning of the 2nd century BC, this statue was discovered in 1863 and sent to the Louvre Museum. The way its wings spread backward indicates that Victory has just landed on the prow of a warship, probably to commemorate a naval victory and to honor the victor.

Manufacture
The embroidery designs for our brooches are exclusively imagined and created by the M&L designers. Each piece is entirely hand-embroidered using **cannetille** wire, following a centuries-old Indo-Pakistani embroidery technique. That is why, in 2009, we recruited our artisans in Pakistan, where we established our own embroidery workshop.
