Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres (1780–1867)
An Odalisque, known as *The Grand Odalisque*, 1814
Oil on canvas
Paris, Musée du Louvre, Department of Paintings.
The Grande Odalisque is Ingres’s most famous nude. This woman, reclining on a divan and gazing at the viewer, evokes the sensual Orient, revealing only her back and the curve of a breast.
Yet the details of the painting are executed with great precision: the texture and richness of the fabrics, the meticulous rendering of the turban, the details of a feather fan, the intricate ribbon-wrapping around a wide bracelet, the delicate interlacing of two bangles…

Manufacture
The embroidery designs for our brooches are exclusively imagined and created by the M&L designers. Each piece is entirely hand-embroidered using **cannetille** wire, following a centuries-old Indo-Pakistani embroidery technique. That is why, in 2009, we recruited our artisans in Pakistan, where we established our own embroidery workshop.
