Syros Group
Cycladic statuette, c. 2700–2300 BC
Marble
Paris, Louvre Museum, Department of Greek, Etruscan, and Roman Antiquities.
This statuette from the Syros group exemplifies the austere aesthetic of the Cycladic civilisation of the 3rd millennium BC. Carved from white marble, it depicts a female figure with her arms crossed, her face marked simply by a prominent nose. The balanced forms and polished surfaces reflect a quest for harmony and abstraction. Undoubtedly linked to funerary rites, this type of statuette is striking for its modernity and has inspired many contemporary artists.

Manufacture
The embroidery designs for our brooches are exclusively imagined and created by the M&L designers. Each piece is entirely hand-embroidered using cannetille wire, following a centuries-old Indo-Pakistani embroidery technique. That is why, in 2009, we recruited our artisans in Pakistan, where we established our own embroidery workshop.
